WHAT IS EMC DARK?

DARK is a high-level and advanced exercise where you'll make fast decisions, improvise, adapt, and react to rapidly changing and challenging situations, as well as discover new sides of yourself.

DARK is designed specifically for more experienced professionals. During the exercise, you'll treat severely injured patients, including facial injury, blast injury, and other polytrauma patients. These types of injuries have been especially prominent in recent crises around the world.

Resources will be limited, and together with an experienced team you'll get to plan and build a stabilization point in wooded field conditions, assess whether resources are sufficient, stabilize patients, and carry out Prolonged Casualty Care if the situation demands it. There will also be aspect of transporting patients, where the situation can change at any moment. The weather will be a factor as well and can play a big part in decision making and treating patients.

This exercise is suitable for experienced healthcare professionals working both prehospital and intrahospital who want to develop their skills and learn to perform better, particularly in exceptional and low-resource field medicine conditions. DARK also helps organizations think about preparedness and readiness in for unexpected situations.

For physicians in specialty training, we will seek accreditation/credits for the course from the University of Helsinki. Credits are valid in Finnish Universitys.

The course is delivered in collaboration with FinnEM Ry.

On the first day of the exercise we will use workshop learning to go through these topics as well.

If you are selected for the course, your registration becomes binding once you have confirmed your participation. Cancellation is only possible for justified reasons. The course fee must be paid through the online store within 14 days of registration. Payment secures your place on the course.

If you cancel your participation at least 3 months (90 days) before the course, no cancellation fee will be charged. For cancellations made 1 to 3 months (30 to 90 days) before the course, we will charge 50% of the course fee. Thank you for an excellent course! This will definitely remain a lifelong memory. I also took away a lot of new skills for my ‘toolkit,’ along with a boost in confidence after pushing myself and overcoming challenges in several areas. The near absence of mobile phones was a pleasant and positive addition.

There was a really positive EMC spirit throughout the course. Everyone had a smile on their face, and the instructors were motivated and enthusiastic about teaching.

The camp taught a great deal about prehospital care and trauma patients, but most importantly about collaboration between different professional groups and its importance.

I can recommend the course to anyone interested in or working in acute care. You can attend Olhava EMC even without extensive outdoor experience. If the opportunity arises to join again, I would gladly go. I was left with a very positive impression of both the organization and the Olhava camp.

A rewarding and educational course that also fosters valuable connections. A great deal of thought and time has clearly gone into its planning and organization. Execution: 5/5—I would gladly attend other courses in the future!
