Hanko Emergency Medicine Camp is a simulation-based training event designed for experienced healthcare professionals, where a wide range of patient scenarios are practiced in realistic and challenging conditions. The theme of the event is trauma and maritime rescue. Hanko EMC is designed and delivered in collaboration with FinnEM ry, the Finnish Border Guard and Coast Guard services, FinnHEMS, and the Finnish Lifeboat Institution.
The training is suitable for all acute care professionals interested in the treatment of acutely ill patients, from nurses and physicians to intensive care specialists. Leadership skills are emphasized in trauma simulations, making the camp particularly well suited for field supervisors, prehospital physicians, and emergency physicians who want to further develop their expertise in a demanding operational environment.
The aim of the course is to understand the care pathway of a trauma patient, the specific characteristics of maritime rescue missions, and the importance of one’s own role in demanding situations. The event offers a unique coastal environment where stress management, situational awareness, and rapid, high-quality decision-making are emphasized. The teaching methods include simulations, workshops, and lectures.
Training is delivered by experienced specialists, physicians, paramedics, and nurses.

Course simulations and workshops
The simulations integrate the unique aspects of maritime rescue with complex emergency care scenarios.
At the 2026 Camp, participants practiced, among other things, rescuing and treating victims of a boating accident in cooperation with authorities, including the Finnish Border Guard and the Finnish Lifeboat Institution, and learned to recognize signs of stress in their own bodies. At the parachuting accident station, treating a trauma patient with limited resources developed participants’ teamwork and non-technical skills. Treating a stabbing victim deepened their competence in managing severe bleeding. A sudden illness affecting a diver, in turn, challenged participants to make rapid decisions and further developed their non-technical skills.
The preparatory workshops focused on practicing the skills required in the simulations.

What does the course offer you?
The greatest benefit of multidisciplinary simulations is the development of non-technical skills. Leadership, teamwork, communication, and situational awareness play a central role both in the simulations and in the debriefing discussions. The course also provides practical takeaways that you can apply in your own workplace, whether in the field or within a hospital setting
During the course, you will also learn to understand the specific characteristics of maritime rescue missions and how they influence the entire chain of care. The event offers a unique opportunity to practice inter-agency collaboration together with the Finnish Border Guard and the Finnish Lifeboat Institution.
The course also covers stress management. You will practice recognizing signs of stress in yourself and assessing its impact on situational awareness and decision-making.
Networking in nature
Hanko Emergency Medicine Camp offers the opportunity to network with colleagues in an idyllic setting. Participants are accommodated in half-platoon tents with their own group, while meals and workshops take place in the renovated village school of Täktom.
The program’s activities provide a refreshing break from intensive learning. At the same time, you’ll have the chance to build new connections and strengthen relationships with familiar colleagues. All activities, accommodation, and meals are included in the course fee, allowing you to focus on what matters most.

Tiistaina 19.5.2026 ensimmäinen koulutuspäivä alkaa klo 16 tervetulotoivotuksella ja työpajoilla.
Keskiviikosta torstaihin 20.–21.5. harjoittelemme simulaatioissa koko päivän. Päivät alkavat aikaisin ja ovat pitkiä.
Torstai-iltana 21.5. vietämme kurssin päätösjuhlaa.
Perjantai 22.5. tapahtuma päättyy klo 10.

Join us for the Hanko Emergency Medicine Camp, an immersive simulation training event tailored for experienced healthcare professionals. In 2026, the camp focuses on trauma care and maritime rescue, providing a unique opportunity to manage critically ill patients in demanding environments.
Simulations include challenging scenarios such as boating accidents, skydiving mishaps, and severe hunting injuries. Participants collaborate with the Finnish Border Guard and the Finnish Lifeboat Institution, gaining hands-on experience in multi-agency cooperation, decision-making under pressure, and recognizing stress in high-stakes situations.
Workshops complement the simulations with focused training in stress management, advanced trauma care, and patient monitoring. Sessions enhance technical and non-technical skills, such as teamwork and situational awareness.
Held in the picturesque coastal setting of Hanko, the camp also offers networking opportunities and activities like yoga, kayaking, and cycling. Shared tent accommodation and meals are included for a fully immersive experience. The camp runs from May 19–22, 2026 and registration opens on February 3, 2026.
The international course will take place if a minimum of 5 participants is reached.
